Board Governance Case Study
For this large non-profit organization, we tackled two important questions: What are the ways in which our advocacy efforts need to expand, and how can we develop our Board of Directors? Through a new governance structure with clearly defined roles, the organization was able to expand and improve performance.
Sacramento Municipal Utilities District (SMUD)
We work with many publicly elected boards, helping them gain clarity about their governance role so that they can manage decisions well. A good example is the Sacramento Municipal Utility District. A focal point of our work is defining in writing the SMUD Board's role.

In the years since it was founded in 1973, the Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op has blossomed into a $15 million business. With 7,000 members/owners, it is the second largest single-store grocery cooperative in the nation in terms of sales and volume.
